Who are affiliates of NLC

Who are the affiliates of NLC?

Nigerian Labor Congress membership is about 4 million and spans the public and private sectors of the economy. It has 40 affiliate unions and 37 state councils. The affiliates also have corresponding structure in the states. However, the membership excludes the military and para-military services as well as some civil establishments that offer services classified by law as essential. An example is the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Nigeria's massive and dynamic informal sector is also largely unorganised although the modalities for its unionisation are now the subject of internal debates in the movement.

How to train your brain to learn faat and remember

*HOW TO TRAIN YOUR BRAIN TO LEARN FAST AND REMEMBER*
With so many technologies coming in, the brain has become dependent on machines to find every answer for it. Researchers have shown more a person is dependent on machines, more his thinking and remembering capability reduces.
Nothing can ever beat the power of the brain, it is an essential part of the body which keeps our body in motion. The brain helps in learning and remembering things, thus making a person smart.
Like a physical body requires exercise to stay healthy, accordingly mind exercises for brain is also required to remain fit to function and its longevity. Read more about accelerated fast learning techniques to learn faster and to remember anything easily:
how train your brain
How to Learn Faster and Remember More: 20 Tips and Tricks:
The following mentioned are few learning tips on how to make your brain remember things fast and increase memory power of brain.
1. Learn new things:
Learning newer things always keeps the brain busy. It helps the brain to get out of comfort zone and wire itself to learn the newer ways of something. It is fact that, when a person starts walking or starts learning the language, initially the brain struggles to understand but gradually adapts the whole process. One can learn anything new from new language to a newer skill or subject, art form or sports, anything which the brain was not accustomed previously.
2. Play mind games and puzzles:
Solving puzzles puts the brain into thinking mode. The more it tries to find the solutions of puzzles or the quiz more it opens up to newer ideas. Try solving different puzzles from Sudoku to the crossword or various other mental games that are available these days.
The brain games are similar to the physical exercise where one pushes the physical limit to strengthen its muscle, similarly brain nerves require to develop beyond its convenient zone. These brain training will increase the capacity for the brain to learn fast.
3. Eat well:
Food is like a fuel to the mind and body. Ensure to eat food on time and let not starve yourself with hunger. It is a common phenomenon when one is hungry has a hard time to remember or think anything. Ensure to eat right also, avoid regular alcohol or too heavy to digest food. Avoid eating heavy in afternoon as it reduces the capability for the brain to work efficiently. Know what is right for you to eat and plan a diet chart.
4. Sleep well:
Over the years, various researchers has proved that a good sleep of 7-8 hours is healthy for the brain to function efficiently. With the lack of sleep, brain health is is effected and brain will not be able to function properly and have trouble remembering anything.
Just by sleeping properly one can see the difference how it functions better and remembers well. With so much stress in life, many people tend to sleep less, pay attention to your sleeping pattern.
Try sleeping early and wake up early in the morning. Have your dinner at least two hours before you sleep, avoid using mobile phones before sleeping. A sound and healthy sleep is secret to the faster brain.
5. Meditation is good:
With so much stress in our professional and personal life going on. Sometimes sleep is also not enough to relax the mind. The best solution is to meditate daily for about twenty minutes.
Let all the thoughts flow and empty your mind and create some space there. Meditation is the most relaxing technique and allows the brain to think better and faster. There are various forms of meditations that one can try from, see which one is fit for you.
Sit in an empty room or in open space and close your eyes and take a deep breath. This will help your mind to relax from the daily stress.
6. A break from routine:
With routine the brain tends to stop thinking anything new, try to break the routine after every few days. For example, if you leave for office at nine in the morning then one day go at eight thirty in the morning.
If you are in the habit of doing a certain thing in a specified way, see if you can find another way of doing the same thing. Breaking the regular monotony for the brain is quite effective for its faster-learning capabilities.
7. Indulge in sports:
Sports are another way of keeping your mind fit along with the physical fitness. A good health certainly helps the brain to function better but pursuing sports are also good. Not only it allows the person to learn sports but also let the brain find out the various ways in which a match can be won.
Sports tend to generate competitive feelings in the person hence, making it think for the better. Try learning new sports and excel in it, practice regularly and participate whenever you get a change.
8. Visualize:
If you have trouble remembering something then try visualizing it in the form of a picture. For example, if you are finding it difficult to learn some formulas or a story, then see them as a picture with eyes closed as it will be easier for the mind to remember. As it is a known fact that the brain is good with visual memory and tends to remember more on visually-based information, hence it works the best.
9. Make a story while learning:
Brain is always fascinated with the stories as it does not stress the fact of learning and are more of enjoyment rather than a serious information. Hence, remembering something in the form of a story works best since it reduces the pressure from the brain to remember something specifically and enjoys the information.
10. Set time while working:
Another interesting way to make the brain functioning for effective is to set the timelines to do a certain work. Fro example, if you decide to finish a certain task then fix a deadline as it will ensure the brain to work faster and effectively. Sometimes the pressure to achieve something makes the brain to figure out the best way to solve the problem.
11. Act on your idea:
As a matter of fact, the mind keeps on working all the time, we constantly keep on thinking about one or the other thing and many times it leads to amazing ideas. The best way to do is to implement the ideas and make them real as it allows the brain to find the newer ideas. The more you act on it the better it is as it will make your brain run for more.
12. Engage more with work you do:
Just thinking and randomly doing something is not enough. Involve and engage in the work or tasks you do completely, give your hundred percent and go beyond just the job scenario. By thinking it from all the perspective allows the brain to develop more and more. Engaged work will let to find the solutions for the various problems that comes up, leading to more research on a certain topic and allowing to think more and more.
13. Be proactive in teamwork:
Proactive nature of a person allows the brain to work better and remember more. Therefore, avoid procrastinating especially your work and get on with it. Taking charge of a situation allows the brain to develop confidence which will indicate in your personality. Confidence generally leads to a healthy and happy brain which further tends to develop the capability of effective learning.
14. Interact with more and more people:
Benefits of socialising is undeniable. Try interacting with more and more people . Know their names and try remembering the faces with their names. Observe their habits and see if you can understand how their personality is. Trying to understand the human behavior is quite tricky but allows your brain to maximize its learning. Observation is one of the best form of learning and one can easily grasp the maximum out of it.
15. Finish one task at a time:
No matter how much one say that multi-tasking is good or people with this skill are highly appreciated. But the important thing is to focus on one task at a time, finish it, achieve it and then move ahead. As it allows the brain to explore in it and will pay attention to the work more. While in the process of multi-tasking the mental energy is scattered and get tired eventually reduces the capability of a brain to work better.
16. Be attentive:
Pay attention to where ever you are and whatever you are doing. If you stand in a place then see what all is around you and try remembering all of it. If you are working then give full attention to it.
Being attentive to something is generally difficult as our brain lacks the mind training of staying at a place. But being attentive definitely teaches the brain to stay at a place without movement. Hence, the stability of mind allows the brain to function faster and better.
17. Create a mind map:
Create a mental road map of everything that you do. For example, when you have to go somewhere formal place then try remembering everything that you see of the way as a map in your mind. See if a bakery shop comes up first and then a post office further ahead you might see a movie theater.
Just as one draw a map on paper similarly draw a simple mental map where you can mark the various locations of a place. This mind maps functions quite effectively as they allow you to develop a sequence of a situation.
18. Learning a new language:
Learning a new language is generally a difficult thing for anyone to do as most of us are accustomed to our mother tounges. But researchers have proved that people who are capable of speaking more than two languages have better brain capacity to learn and works better.
Therefore, learning a new language is quite a time taking a process and makes the brain go out of comfort zone in the primary source of communication. Once it is achieved then learning anything new is never difficult.
19. Create a mental room:
As one can see in various detective shows where the detectives have a mental room in which they keep all their thoughts secured. It is an interesting and highly effective way to do. Close your eyes and create a mental space in your mind, give it color, look and feel to space.
Try putting every important information there whenever you need to remember something of extreme importance. Whenever you feel you are not able to remember the right thing then just close your eyes and see yourself in the same mental space. It might seem unreal at first, but it works the best.
20. Keep questioning:
Children generally have sharp minds and as one grows they tend to lose their brain memory power. One such interesting point to note here is that children are curious by nature and keep on questioning everything they see around and save a part of your child within you and keep on questioning things around you, be curious and enthusiastic about everything.
Try to find the answers of those questions and probe deeper into it like a child does. The secret of great memory and increased brain power is to keep your part of self as a child. This is a great memorization technique.
Conclusion :
The human brain is like any other machine of our daily life. As we take care of the machine in our surrounding by regular servicing, cooling similarly the brain also requires the care for it. Avoid getting into situations that makes you sad or brings pain as the emotional fluctuation do reduces the mental capability to function. By following these points on how to train your brain to remember, one can develop their brain to work faster and better.

Classroom management

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT TIPS TO MOTIVATE SLOW LEARNERS.

Slow learners is a term often used for children with below average IQ levels. It seems like a lifelong tag suggesting that such children are non-achievers. But that is not the issue. The only problem with them is that they learn concepts and achieve developmental milestones at a pace slower than their peers. We all have few of them in our classrooms.

Teachers and parents play pivotal roles in a slow learner’s life. Creating a healthy and conducive environment for a slow learner is of utmost importance to improve their pace. Often teachers who have a slow learner in their class face problems: keeping up with the term syllabus, fear of losing empathy toward such students, and many others.

Here are few tips for teachers to motivate slow learners in our classrooms.

1. Patience is essential

Being patient is the foremost aspect of teaching a slow learner. The prime issue with slow learners is their weak cognitive skills and slow speed of learning. A teacher has to be understanding and patient towards their ability to get distracted easily and having a low attention span. Try and find creative ways to cope with the situation of repeating every basic instruction, concepts, definitions, steps in practical, etc. They won't get them at once.

2. Involve classmates

Teach the other students to empathize with these special students. Specially ask them not to bully or tease slow learners. Inform them about their condition and how they could make a difference. Ensure you have these timely sessions in the slow learner’s absence.

3. Less Homework

Homework for students like these can be more of a burden than learning. For such children, quality matters over quantity. Having minimum homework would help them understand learning and reduce their anxiety. This would keep up their enthusiasm towards school.

4. Peer Tutoring

Let friends help. Being taught from someone who is of the same age works better for everyone. Let them select 1 or 2 of their friends to form a study group. Assign the study group the task of reiterating the new teachings of the day and assisting with homework.

5. Praise them

Every tiny bit of genuine appreciation helps. Praising a small effort of a slow learner in front of the class would definitely boost their confidence.

6. What not to do

Do not scold them in front of everyone, do that in private. Do not force written education on them. Work on reading and oral exercises first. Do not let them quit trying. Encourage them to continue their hard work even it means extending the time deadlines. Do not be overprotective.

The children need to know that it is completely okay to learn things slowly than not to learn at all. Patience and continuous encouragement is key.

RETIREMENT

*Retirement*

*1. one day you will retire.* You won't be going to work. You won’t have office power anymore. No influence or at best, a reduced influence. Your cash flow will also reduce.! Check retirement date on your payslip.

*2. Always  go for your 30days annual leave.* Whatever you do during your leave, is what you will be doing when you retire. If all you do is to sleep or watch TV, then that’s what you are likely to do in your retirement. Remember the book of Proverbs. A little sleep and a little slumber, so shall your poverty multiply.
Watching Big Brother Naija will not save your heartache in retirement. Learn a trade or a skill during your leave. It will come in handy. Spend your after-office hours learning something. Don’t spend it sleeping, Gossiping, watching TV!! Same goes for your weekend. Make them productive. You will thank yourself for spending your time productively.

*3. Invest for your retirement.*.. your children are not retirement investment. Don’t bank on your children’s support or the support of friends or relations. That’s a BIG risk. It may not happen. Be ready to take care of yourself!! Everyone has his own responsibilities. They won’t be able to help you that much. You will also lose your dignity and respect if you adopt a life of begging.

*4. Start a hobby* early in your working days to take you along when you retire. Rearing chicken, farming or own a shop. Acquire marketable skills ( not useless paper certificates) Etc

*5. Where shall you retire.* Build yourself a home. Don't retire and start to rent a house or refuse to vacate government house. You will be at the mercy of your landlord at a time when your cash flow is not only reduced but unpredictable!!

*6. Who shall be your dependents.* By the time you retire, your children should be above 18, and self-reliant.

*7. Don't retire and stay in a big city* unless you can TRULY afford it. You can't continue living in a big city after 60 with limited financial resources. The language and the hustle will be hard for you. Where possible, Relocate to a less expensive town where your reduced take home (pension) can go further.

*8. Have property which can be rented or converted into cash*. Have shares that pay good dividends. Plant cash trees. Rear goats, cultivate vegetables etc. these activities will not only give you income but will also keep you healthy.

*9. Live a simple life*. If you never built a house at your rural home, don't use your retirement package to build. It is unwise unless you plan to live there on a permanent basis or you are super rich and therefore can afford the luxury. The choice is yours.

*Note that many of retirees die early because of the following*:

1. They are Not mentally prepared to retire.
2. Lack of finances
3. They Lapse into Depression
4 They develop Hypertension/ Diabetes because of worries, anxiety and uncertainty "and financial pressures.

*YOUR DESK AT YOUR WORKPLACE IS NOT PERMANENT. PLAN  FOR YOUR RETIREMENT*

LATTER TO YOUTH

LETTER TO YOUTH

Keep your Degree in a safe custody for future opportunity, and engage in entrepreneur skills, otherwise you will die poor.

Most of the educated people in Nigeria are poor. Majority of the educated earn less than N55,000 for a salary before tax and other deductions. When the deductions are put into consideration, the net salary comes to around N50,000. The net salary then suffers from loan deductions of up to N15,000 leaving the salary at around N35,000. The landlord then demands for his N15,000 and monthly shopping takes away N10,000 leaving one with a N10,000. The bus will demand for N300 going to and from work and relatives get another N2,500. The whole salary is gone and borrowed money starts operating. The borrowed money includes short loans and salary advances.

The difference between poverty and prosperity is property. A prosperous person has property to his name while a poverty stricken person has no property to show. Using this understanding, therefore, most of the degree holders are poverty stricken, borrowing money to buy chicken and chips, pizza, and a car.

The biggest excuse for getting paid such low amounts of money and having to sit and work for another person for 30 days is THE DEGREE that one possesses and that’s all. This has made most of the degree holders very poor to poverty stricken and will die that way most likely. A degree holder does not know how to generate money unless that money is generated for the employer. A degree holder is so dependent on the salary that he can do anything to get a job but will not think of starting a business of his own to employ others.

Interesting Facts!

1.   A degree holder is not prepared to sell chips but is very happy to work for hungry lion (companies).

2.   A degree holder is not prepared to sell popcorn in the street but is very happy to work for Dangote outlet in the city and mum river-sides.

3.   A degree holder is not prepared to sell second hand clothes but is very happy to be employed by Zenith Bank which the business of selling stocks and looking for customers in a scorching Sun.

4.   A degree holder is not prepared to make N150,000 monthly doing his own business but is very happy to work at the till in a bank getting paid N25,000.

5.   A degree holder is not prepared to start a company and grow it in two to three years but will spend three years searching for a job.

6.   A degree holder is not prepared to sell food to students but will be happy to be reporting to a boss with no qualifications as Office Assistant as long as he is paid N30,000 for a salary.

7.   A degree holder is so eager to get out of this country and work in another country than spend time to develop his own country.

8.   A degree holder staying in a foreign land (Nigerian) is very keen to condemn Nigeria but never contributing to the development of this country.

9.   A Nigerian degree holder would rather sweep the streets of London or USA than start a business to make money in her father land – others work in people’s homes doing some work (cleaners).

10. A degree holder in Nigeria will watch porn on his laptop but never sit to write a book using the same laptop to sell and make money.

11. A degree holder will blame the government for lack of jobs even after he was on government bursary for him to have his degree.

12. Nigeria is blessed with young people who have master’s degree and others are doctors in different technical fields such as IT and Engineering but all of them have failed to create a cartoon character or develop a movie from the same instead very happy to buy Tom and Jerry for their children thereby promoting American and UK.

A school I visit, there is a man that is of very humble background. He does not speak English but sells Coke, Fanta and Sprite at N80 each making a profit of N10 on each drink. He also sells chips at N50 making a profit of N17 on each portion. Not less than 80 students buy chips and a drink every single day. This means he makes a profit of N27 for a drink and chips and a total profit of N2,160 per day…every single day. In ten days he makes a profit of N21,600 in twenty days N43,200 and in thirty days N64,800.

The degree holder working in a bank at the till gets a salary of N45,000 every month.

Why are the degree holders poor?

Because they have decided to pride themselves in a degree and failed to think better than a man who does not have even a certificate to his name.

Degree holders spend their time liking articles on linkedIn and facebook but never have any care in the world to implement what they like. Poverty starts from the mind, a mind that just likes things but never to implement those things.

If you want to progress, keep that degree and start thinking better than someone without a degree. There's no white collar Job anywhere bro!

Be prepared to get your hands dirty and work like an ox for your business. Your hard work will pay off.

Think Success!!! Think Entrepreneurship!!!👌👌

Yours Sincerely.....

Coalition Of Social Entrepreneurs...
fight your way to that financial freedom you seek.

BUILD THE YOUTH.
BUILD THE NATION.

THE WORLD TEACHERS DAY

THE WORLD TEACHER’S DAY
- October 5th

World Teachers’ Day 2018 will mark the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) that recognizes education as a key fundamental right and establishes an entitlement to free compulsory education, ensuring inclusive and equitable access for all children.
This year’s theme, “The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher,” has been chosen to remind the global community that the right to education cannot be achieved without the right to trained and qualified teachers. Even today, a continuing challenge worldwide is the shortage of teachers.
There are an estimated 264 million children and youth still out of school globally. To reach the 2030 Education Goals of universal primary and secondary education, the world needs to recruit almost 69 million new teachers. This ‘teacher gap’ is more pronounced among vulnerable populations, such as girls, children with disabilities, refugee and migrant children, or poor children living in rural or remote areas.

*What can schools do to mark this annual event?*

• TGIF
Provide each of your staff with a custom made t-shirt which they should wear to school on that day! Dress down mode!

• Parent-Teacher Swap
Parents volunteer to take the place of teachers for the day!
Parents must be given ample notice. Teachers should simply be ‘off duty!’

• Students art work
Get students to make an art work from photos of teachers taken while managing different activities. Display each craft on bulletin boards in every classroom.

• Call in
Ask parents and students to call and wish their teachers a happy celebration.

• Pray!
Invite a religious leader to pray for & bless your teachers. You can hold a thanksgiving service!

• Involve the PTA
With the support of the PTA, host your teachers to a sumptuous lunch in school. Transform the hall or a large enough room and get prefects to escort each teacher as special guests into the hall. Red carpet glamour! Hire servers and waiters to give the staff a well deserved treat!

• Engage the teachers’ families
In secret, work with the family members of each teacher, to record videos or prepare photo slides on what the teacher’s life is outside school! Show these during the special luncheon in the hall.

• Top Up their phones
Give each teacher enough ‘credit’ for the month of October! The amount should be worth its salt! They should be able to save their own money on reoccurring phone bills to use the following month.

• Write an appreciation note. Use lovely stationery (paper & envelope)

• CPDs count!
Register and send your teachers to all-paid & RELEVANT training workshops that meet their individual needs.

• Play games
Host fun sports between male and female teachers or between teachers of other schools in the neighborhood.

• Teacher of the year
Kick start a teacher of the year contest from this day. Share your criteria and give teachers up until June ending of the following year, to try to improve on their job skills. Announce the winner in July. Recognize and reward the winner!

• Photo shoots
Invite a professional photographer to take memorable photos of your teachers (groups, person, per unit etc) and create a photo album to keep in the school. The teachers are free to dress up in costumes or preferred attires.

Think of many other creative ways to celebrate the day.

You can do all of these or pick the few that you can afford.

Lastly, just have fun
